What Do You Stand For?

Written by:Shelleva Orr

Greetings my little butterflies! There is no knowing who you are until you also know what you stand for.  Identifying your values is a primary way to claim ownership of your own knife and is essential to growing up.  You could of course, take your values from other people. There will certainly be no shortage of people who would like to create your values for you and run your life for you.  We are exposed constantly to a barrage of opinions.  All of it is values driven.  We must clearly understand purpose and position in life.  Are we moving in forward motion to that place? Is our movement a clear and concise example of our values? Are our values aligned with the stated and unstated mission and vision for our lives? What do you stand for?  Do your values include the needs and interests of others as well as for yourself? If other people’s opinions or values drive your life, take charge.  Ask yourself whether their ways of seeing the world mesh with your own experiences and insights.  Remind yourself that this is your life.  I’m choosing how to live it.  I’m responsible for the values my life reflects.  Tell yourself that what I stand for will create the story of my life.  It is what will shape my character, set my horizons, and consciously and unconsciously guide me.  Now ask yourself, what do I stand for?
